Top 10 questions for research in diabetes and pregnancy announced

Women and their families, and healthcare professionals tell us their top 10 questions for research in diabetes and pregnancy.

The NPEU launched the Diabetes and Pregnancy Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) in 2018 with the James Lind Alliance, Diabetes UK, JDRF the type 1 diabetes research charity and Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation. Using a method developed by the James Lind Alliance, over 700 women, their families and healthcare professionals across the UK, jointly identified the questions in diabetes and pregnancy they think are the most important for research to answer.

The Top 10 questions were announced today at the 2020 Diabetes UK Professional Conference. The questions will be shared with research funders to help direct research towards answering them. This way, research efforts will be directed towards research in areas of most value and impact according to women, their families and healthcare professionals.

The project team would like to thank everyone who contributed through the surveys and took part in the final workshop, the PSP funders the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation and the University of Oxford (John Fell Fund and Nuffield Department of Population Health), the PSP steering group members and partners Diabetes UK, JDRF the type 1 diabetes charity, James Lind Alliance, and the many people and organisations who supported at various stages throughout the project, without whom this project would not have been successful.
