A collaboration led by MBRRACE-UK is appointed by the Department of Health and Social Care (England) to maintain and continue to develop the national standardised Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT) building on the work of the DH/Sands Perinatal Mortality Review 'Task and Finish Group'.

The national PMRT is live and available for use by Trusts and Health Boards. You can see more information about the tool here.The PMRT has been designed with user and parent involvement to support high quality standardised perinatal mortality reviews on the principle of 'review once, review well'. The aim of the PMRT programme is to support standardised perinatal mortality reviews across NHS maternity and neonatal units in the UK.

The scope of the PMRT encompasses England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Duration of the programme: Initiated in February 2017, following a further competitive bidding process the current contract with the Department of Health and Social Care for the PMRT programme runs until 31st March 2026.

Funding: The PMRT programme is commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care for England and on behalf of the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Ireland Governments; as a consequence the tool is free for use by Trusts and Health Boards in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
