You & Your Baby 2024: NPEU launches the latest national maternity survey
Published on Thursday, 14 November 2024 Post
Women who gave birth during the first two weeks in May this year are being invited to take part in an online survey to share their experiences of pregnancy and childbirth.
Since 1995, maternity surveys have been carried out in England by the University of Oxford's National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU). The surveys collect up-to-date information on women's experiences of pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenthood, which is used to improve maternity services across the country.
“You & Your Baby 2024” is the first maternity survey we have carried out since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. We know women's health and the care they received during the pandemic was affected and so hearing about women's maternity experiences since then will be so important. This year, the survey is focusing on women's mental health, in addition to other important topics including infant feeding and maternity care.
We are recruiting more than half of women who gave birth in England during the first two weeks in May 2024. These women will be identified randomly through birth registration records at the Office for National Statistics. The women who are identified will receive an invitation through the post inviting them to go online to complete the survey.
If you have received an invitation to take part in the survey, you can access it via the following link: https://www.bit.ly/YAYB2024
All women who are invited to take part in “You & Your Baby 2024” will have the opportunity to be entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win one of a hundred New Baby One4All gift cards worth £20.
“You & Your Baby 2024” is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Policy Research Programme, conducted through the Policy Research Unit in Maternal and Neonatal Health and Care (PRU-MNHC). The survey findings will be made available as a detailed report and short summary on the survey website in 2025.
